![]() ![]() It is widely recognized by the scholars that after retiring from active life Chanakya continued to advise the king in times of emergency. The relationship between the two continued even after Chanakya’s retirement. ![]() That initial conditionality worked as the primary basis of their companionship. One must not forget the fact that before his enthronement as the king, Chandra-gupta Maurya had got himself tied with the conditionality of Chanakya. ![]() The objective of present investigation is to find out different dimensions of companionship between Chanakya and Chandra-gupta Maurya. However, there is hardly any specific study on the affair of companionship between Chanakya and Chandra-gupta Maurya. Over two thousand years later, the activities of Chanakya, Chandragupta Maurya and his successors, including Ashoka the Great, are objects of great study in the annals of South Asian and World history. The central arguments of this paper based on the fact that enthronement of Maurya dynasty by destroying the Nandas, and Kautilya’s emergence as social thinker had been possible due to his inevitable relationship with Chandra-gupta Maurya. Chanakya is also known by other two names- Kautilya and Visnugupta. This study attempts to investigate into the bondage of companionship between Chanakya (c.350-283 B.C.) and Chandra-gupta Maurya (born c.340, ruled c.320-298 B.C.) in ancient India. ![]()
